Lady Indians rebound with convincing win over George Walton
Coming off their first loss in 7 games, the #10-ranked 博鱼体育APP Lady Indians defeated visiting George Walton 49-25 on Friday night in convincing fashion. The girls led for nearly the entire game, and pulled away in the second half.
博鱼体育APP opened the game on a quick 4-0 spurt. Denika Lightbourne dropped in 6 points in the quarter as well as a couple of pivotal blocks. Both sides traded baskets throughout, and George Walton's buzzer-beating jumper tied the game at 10 at the end of the first.
The visitors opened the second with a trifecta to claim their first lead. After a lengthy scoring drought for the Lady Indians, Lightbourne had back-to-back layups to reclaim the lead. Another 3-pointer for George Walton put them back up, but the Lady Indians again went ahead, this time on a pair of free throws by Veronaye Charlton and another bucket by Lightbourne, who had 13 first half points.
With a 19-16 lead opening the second half, Charlton dropped in an acrobatic layup. She then had a steal and slick pass to Molly Mitchell for an easy deuce to make it 24-16. Charlton and Lightbourne, as well as a Macy Murdock 3-pointer pushed the lead up to 31-20 and began to put the game away. A techincal foul at the end of the third led to a free point by way of a Murdock free throw, giving 博鱼体育APP a 32-22 lead.
The Lady Indians used a 14-0 run in the fourth, highlighted by Lightbourne and Charlton notching several baskets, as well as 2 more triples by Murdock.
Lightbourne led all scorers with 20 points, while Charlton and Murdock finished with 12 and 10, respectively. Mitchell had 3 points, and Kailyn Neal and Barrett Whitener had 2 apiece.
The Lady Indians are now 8-3 on the season and 3-1 within the region.
